Mid-Town Lunch

SJ MartinezComment

Lunch hour in New York City is filled with countless activities set to entertain the minions with food and music.  As an onlooker and sometime participant who when released from the innards of the steel, mortar and glass edifices, I frequently enjoyed the ritual of a mid-day hour long respite. However, when I was an office minion I mostly had lunch at my desk…so that I could spend my hour amongst the throngs taking street photos. Using that hour of free time to wander about looking for something to shoot was total entertainment for me as well as a challenge to find the shot I wanted, something that spoke to me.

Recently, I was walking south on Park Avenue near 50th Street, I was surrounded by the masses and could barely see into the swarm where they were enjoying their mid-day meal at the foot of an open space reflecting pool with a fountain. I saw this opening in the crowd just enough to catch a glimpse of the happy chicken pita eating Lunch-timers. I grabbed this photo using my 5D Mark III and 70-200mm lens set at 70mm, I did crop the photo in and made some other adjustments in post… I do like the mellowed out appearance in spite of the high in the sky midday sun. It gives me the sense of squeezing in through the crowd just looking for an open space to sit and have my own lunch…
